A blog about the new book ‘Culture Based Development: Modelling Cultural Bias in Economic Choice‘ has been published in the Author’s Article section of the Edward Elgar Blog. The piece explores the relevance of the CBD Paradigm for the urgent theme of transitioning from hate to love and peace - resonating deeply with global reflections on peace and nuclear disarmament last week.
The article appeared at the 80th Anniversary of Hiroshima & Nagasaki, on the same day as the Nobel Peace Center’s event commemorated the atomic bomb dropped on Japan, alongside a statement from the European Commission on nuclear disarmament. My reflections align with these historically relevant events, offering a Culture Based Development perspective on pathways to healing and human flourishing.
This goes with special thanks to Edward Elgar for all their great care in making this book a reality, and especially for choosing this really important date to publish the Elgar Blog article about the book. Deep understanding and togetherness in action are being demonstrated on every step in working with them! Thank you so much, Edward Elgar Publishing Team!

🚐✨ The CBD Caravan of Knowledge continues its journey!
A Culture Based Development Round Table Book Launch, took place at the 30th Anniversary celebrations at ISQOLS Annual Congress, Luxembourg, 22–25 July.
📚 This special event presents Culture Based Development (CBD) through the lens of its wellbeing and mental health of crowds nexus - a visionary and evidence-based alternative to the “madness of crowds.” Grounded in aesthetic education, the CBD blueprint helps cultivate emotional intelligence and mental health resilience in both individuals and communities. Discover how cultural capital serves as a powerful driver for collective wellbeing, social cohesion, and inclusive development. We celebrate 30 years of global wellbeing research by ISQOLS with a bold new paradigm for healing communities through culture!
The new short CBD movie introduces the Culture-Based Development (CBD) paradigm from the perspective of its applications as a pioneering approach to investment in the culture of places. This CBD cultural investment leads to education in emotional intelligence: aesthetic education.
A CBD-balanced aesthetic education ensures the preservation of local emotional resilience in times of uncertainty - a skill which is in the heart of sustainable human flourishing. You can read more about aesthetic education here: PASCAL Briefing Paper 30 - Aesthetic Education and Learning Cities | CRADALL
CBD offers a blueprint how to successfully achieve this in policymaking. The end of each chapter of the new CBD book dedicates special attention to its relevance for aesthetic education. The most important CBD policy indicator in this context is CULTURAL ENTROPY. For more details on Cultural Entropy, check Chapter 4 of the CBD Book available at: here.
